Dear Substack friends,
my new book, titled eponymously to this Substack, “DEAD TO WRITES” is now out in hard copy (digitally available on Kindle/Amazon on June 1)
I have a few copies left and will gladly inscribe them for you if interested. The cost of the book is $20. I can ship in the US for a total of $25, Canada total of $35 and Europe total of $55. You can use my email address georgegrosman@gmail.com for PayPal and @ george-grosman for Venmo. You can also send me a check if you’re a US resident (email me for my address)
The book contains eight of my short stories and my translation of Karel Capek’s novella “Life and Work of Maestro Foltyn”. My stories deal with the usual Central European Jewish obsessions of death, love and pastries. Some are quite dark but none is without humor, black or otherwise. As for the translation, Capek is among the most prominent Czech authors of the 20th century. “Foltyn” is a slim novella: sadly, Capek died before he was able to finish it. Nevertheless, it’s a fascinating look into the empty, venal life of an untalented musician who convinces himself and some others that he is, in fact, a musical genius.
Please email if interested and thank you for reading and commenting on my Substack. A new piece is in the making
