Anecdotal evidence is NO evidence at all. We should all steer clear of “my uncle works in the local hospital and he says…” It means absolutely nothing. You can bet your bottom dollar someone will counter with: “My sister works in the ER and she says…” And you’re right back where you started. Just yesterday I read a horror story (anecdotally told) of two unvaccinated people in their fifties, very ill with Covid. Today, I heard an unvaccinated friend suffering late stage prostate cancer no less, had gotten over Covid in two days and pronounced it “lighter than some colds I’ve had”. Neither case is proof of anything. Only numbers talk. And numbers out of Ontario, Canada (similar vaccination rate to New York State) tell us the ratio of hospitalized patients is approximately 3:2 vax: unvax. Unlike most states, Canadian provinces seem to be good at providing decent statistics despite the country being lead by a smiling, well-coiffed fascist.
I know very few people who’ve had the disease, even after almost two years. I have friends in other states who witness cases daily. If I were to judge by personal experience only, I simply would not know there is a pandemic. But life is more than one narrow experience: I read, I listen, I observe and I DO know this disease is real. What is unreal is our reaction to it.
I am scandalized by the amount of masking I see here in Central Florida. One would think that in a state whose governor removed all state mandates in September 2020 (!), there would be very few people left still bowing to the Cult of the Face Cloth. One would be wrong. In the parking lot of my local supermarket earlier this afternoon, maskers outnumbered the bare-faced daredevils like myself. Only two or three people wore the hot item, the N95 snout. The rest had cloth and surgical masks on. Again, one would think that after reading about aerosols for almost 24 months, people would realize how ridiculously useless a surgical mask is. And again, one would be wrong.
That’s all for today. A short report but I thought I’d share my thoughts. The weather down here is fabulous. Come to Florida! Who would want to live anywhere else?
Good question! But for now I do up here in the frozen north. Love to come for a visit but getting back home would be near impossible outside of the communist dictates.
Please consider following my stack Mr. Grosman. I'd be honoured..
